  HOTEL INFORMATION

Spread out in its vast and luxuriant tropical garden along one of the longest and finest beaches in Mauritius, the resort revels in space and privacy.

Located on the west coast of Mauritius 35 km from the capital city of Port Louis, La Pirogue offers numerous excursion possibilities, notably in the beautifully natural south of the island.

Modelled on a fishing village, La Pirogue’s authentic and comfortable architecture is one of harmonious variations on the theme of a pirogue’s sail billowing in the wind, from the resort’s main building to its cottages of volcanic rock, wood and thatch.
The magnificent beach stretches along the crystal-clear sea protected by the barrier reef further out. All along the beach, a vast, luxuriant palm-grove basks in the sweet fragrances of frangipani.

Welcome to La Pirogue, the most authentic and Mauritian of resorts.

With its superb new infinity pool, remodelled restaurants and redecorated guest-rooms, the renovated resort has even greater appeal.

Between the beach and the Indian Ocean the days are too short to experience all the activities on offer. Pulsating to the rhythm of enthralling shows, the tropical night is no less intense.

With its romantic tropical atmosphere and its warm-hearted personnel, ever attentive to guests’ needs, La Pirogue more than ever keeps its promises of thoroughly gratifying, unforgettable holidays.

  ACCOMMODATION

Cosy and full of warmth, the one-floor individual cottages nestle amid colourful splashes of hibiscus and frangipani in the 14 hectares palm-grove and open privately on the garden and the Indian Ocean.

They are grouped in small villages laid out in an arc. Each cottage houses one Superior or two Standard guest-rooms. There are also two Royal Suites, each in a more spacious cottage of its own.

Basking in light and the warm shades of coral and vanilla, the guest-rooms provide all the comfort one might wish for on a relaxed holiday, including a furnished private terrace from which to savour the most beautiful sunsets.

Room service is available 24 hours a day.
The cottages are grouped in small villages laid out in an arc.

There are 200 Standard guest-rooms of 25 m2 each, some communicating, which is ideal for families.

Bathed in light and warmth, with fragrant frangipani flowers delicately disposed here and there and ceiling fans with large blades of marine wood, the guest-rooms and their terraces are an invitation to lazing about and day-dreaming.
The 46 Superior guest-rooms, of 35 m2 each, are grouped in 5 small villages immediately fronting the Indian Ocean.

Each occupies a cottage by itself and can accommodate a family of four (provided the two children are under twelve years of age) thanks to a sofa-bed or two convertible armchairs.
Located in the northern part of the resort, the two 78-m2 Royal Suites: Bougainvillaea and Flamboyant, each occupy a larger cottage. At once very private, with their own private garden, and close to the heart of the resort, they open onto the palm-grove and the sea.

Superbly appointed in the refined and elegant Asian style furniture, they are particularly bright and pleasing, with a large bedroom and separate lounge and dining-room.

The terrace offers a privileged upfront view of the magnificent beach and crystal-clear sea.

Fruit basket on arrival, bright-coloured bouquets and harmonious arrangements of frangipani flowers add to the refinement.

  DINNING

From the lavish buffets of Thatches, the main restaurant, to romantic dinners under the thatch-tops of Paul et Virginie’s dining-islets overhanging the infinity pool, the food experience at La Pirogue is an exciting voyage of discovery through the flavours of the world, with a unique emphasis on demonstration, generosity and variety
Completely redesigned and now more spacious and tropical, the main restaurant, Thatches, provides a great energy-and-vitamin start to the day with its copious and appetising breakfast buffets in its dining-room opening onto the garden or overlooking its decorative pool.

In the evening, from 19h30 to 22h00, Thatches showcases demonstrative World Cuisine for a totally new dining experience, with six themed live-cooking stations: a stir-fry and fresh-noodle station; an Indian station with its tandoor oven for traditional local cuisine; a huge salad station; a fresh-pasta and pizza station; a grill-and-tepanyaki station; and a multitude of desserts as well as an Ice-Cream Bar to complete the array. For the more romantic, the restaurant also features cosy wood-and-thatch dining-islets overhanging the decorative pool.
Immediately fronting the Indian Ocean, the renovated Paul et Virginie Restaurant has enhanced its romantic appeal yet further with the cosiness of small thatch-roofed dining pavillons overhanging the new infinity pool.

At lunchtime, from 12.30 to 14h30 everyday, it offers delicious authentic local cuisine as well as a whole range of exotic preparations of Mauritian Creole dishes, smoked marlin with heart of palm, sea-bream in lime sauce, tandoori lamb, grilled crayfish, and traditional ‘kulfi’ ice-cream, to name but a few.

In the evening as from 19h30, its offering is more sophisticated, with a focus on seafood and healthy stir-fries, grills and smoked dishes: smoked marlin with heart of palm, tandoori fresh-water prawns, grilled crayfish, prawn-and-chicken curry, and excellent desserts. The wine list includes a variety of South African and New World wines.

Not to be missed under any circumstances: the weekly Seafood Extravaganza evening with its barbecues and séga, and the Crayfish Dinner.
Facing the sea, between La Pirogue and Sugar Beach Resort, guests can savour the delights of the Mediterranean’s sunny cuisines in the cordial warmth of Citronella’s dining-room, with its fine wrought-iron tables, or in the shade of the café’s teak terrace.

The mouth-watering offering ranges from tasty light snacks to traditional dishes worthy of the best Italian restaurants, including giant prawns in Espeletta chilly pastry, crayfish-bisque lasagne, grilled crayfish with Mediterranean sauce, braised knuckle of lamb, and tiramisu.

Open for lunch from 12.30 to 3pm every day except Monday, and for dinner from 7.30 to 11pm every day except Sunday.
