Mbodiene is a small quiet village which runs along the lagoon and the sea. Six kilometres to the south is the village Joal-Fadiouth, home of the first President of the Republic of Senegal, Léopold Sédar Senghor. It’s one of the most accessible places for the Saloum, and a starting point towards "more in the south".

Bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean, Senegal has a maritime frontage of 700 km including 500 km of sand beaches. A zone Sudanese in the centre and to the east with the savannah made up of baobab trees, thorned bush and high grass. Lastly, a subtropical zone to the south with a very dense forest and fertile vegetation, where the country is boarded by Guinea and Guinea Bissau. Senegal is divided in the medium by Gambia.
The estimated population of Senegal is more than 10 million inhabitants which including a large proportion of young people. Senegal is composed of several ethnics groups with their culture and their language: the most important group is the wolofs , there is also the Sérères, Toucouleurs, Peulhs, Diolas, Mandingues, Sarakholés and Bassaris.
