  HOTEL INFORMATION

Welcome to the online home of Avalon Springs Luxury Hotel & Spa Resort - the Cape's favourite year-round holiday destination! We are an RCI, AA and SATOUR affiliated resort.

This world-renowned resort was awarded the 1998 RCI Hospitality Award and more recently presented with the prestigious status of "Resort of International Distinction" by RCI in 2005. The resort's staff were also voted as "Best Team of 2005" by an AA nationwide survey.
Situated in the spectacular Breede River Valley, commonly considered to be the Gateway to the Klein Karoo. 2km outside Montagu, only 180km from Cape Town via N1, N2 or Route 62 (Longest Wine Route in the World!).

Climate: Dry, hot summers with cold winter nights, but beautiful days. Roughly 200m above sea level with less than 200mm of rainfall per annum. The area is well known for wines and fruit farming.

  ACCOMMODATION

Although not quite in the same league as our Presidential Suite, our four star De-Luxe Suites ("The Montagu" and "The Bloupunt") leave nothing to be desired and (as is the case with all our accommodation) will satisfy even the most fastidious guest! Both Suites are extra spacious and can sleep up to 4 people (or more in the case of small children).

Standard equipment includes air-conditioning and ceiling fans, heating, telephone & hairdryers (in both the room as well as the bathroom), TV & "Stand Alone" DSTV, complimentary mini-bar (with full rate only), Hi-fi, as well as coffee and tea making facilities with a courtesy fridge.

The bathrooms are more than generous and sport "Champagne" marbled sanitary-ware with his & hers vanity, duette corner bath, separate shower cubicle as well as toilet and bidet plus underfloor heating in winter.

Due to their size, the rooms are very comfortable and accessible for the physically challenged. Both these suites are front facing and overlook the Resort's grounds and you will enjoy the superior furnishings and appointments.

  DINNING

This is the Resort's main dining venue and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week (closed for dinner on Sundays, unless its a long weekend). Cogman's boasts a rich and warm décor, is fully airconditioned & heated and the venue is available for private functions, weddings, etc. Dancing is possible on a tiled dance floor and weather permitting, there is an open-air, undercover Verandah which can be enclosed and which together with the main room allows seating for 180 pax.

Breakfast is served daily from 7h00 to 10h00 and we have taken the best items of South African and traditional English breakfasts, and combined them into a Breakfast Buffet that makes it impossible to go hungry. With more than 100 hot & cold items to choose from, we promise that EVERYONE will find something to their liking and Halaal and Vegetarian Guests are catered for.

Lunch is served daily from 12h00 onwards and you may choose from our extensive traditional a la carte and grill room menu or opt for our daily, 3 course table d hote - set menu luncheon. As there is no formal cut-off time for lunch (unless the venue needs to be prepared for an evening function), guests have been known to sit and enjoy lunch as late as 5pm in the afternoon!

Dinner is served daily from 19h00 onwards with last orders around 22h00 to 22h30. In addition to the a la carte menu our chefs regularly offer specials ranging from Venison to Fresh Line/ Shell Fish from suppliers less than 100km away. You can REALLY "make a meal" of a relaxing evening in Cogman's whilst sampling some of the finest wines our region has to offer.

Children are also very welcome in Cogman's and we even have a special "Kiddies Menu" for them. Early meals for children, or separate, supervised meals can be arranged.

  HOTEL FACILITIES

The Avalon Health Spa, Gym & Wellness Center

Located on the second floor (above the Conference Center), this venue, although compact, "packs a BIG punch", and offers a host of services and facilities not often found in Health Spa Centers much larger than it. Open to Resident Guests (with most facilities free) from 06h00 to 23h00 daily and Day Visitors (R50 - R75: One day membership including the use of outdoor pools) from 8h00 to 22h00, our Health Spa offers the following:

1) Change Rooms, Showers & Ablutions
2) A Steam Room
3) An indoor "Sitzbath" with Spa Jets fed directly from our Hot Spring.
4) A Health Bar with a variety of health foods and drinks and complimentary spring water.
5) A complete gym circuit with training equipment for all muscle groups
as well as weight lifting apparatus.
6) A Foot Spa
7) A Sunbed
8) A Sun Lounge with TV
Judging by some "early graffiti" which was found during the excavations of the present day pool complex "modern man" has known about the springs since the late 1700’s and the "graffiti" referred to above, is a chiseled rock inscription by an "A.J. De Wit" dated 1812.

Popular history tells us that a 'Trekboer' (Pioneer Farmer) had injured his hand whilst repairing the wheel on one of his ox wagons and whilst bathing the hand in a stream nearby, discovered that the water was warm and decided to trace the stream to it’s origins....the hot springs had been discovered! Allegedly the Farmer’s hand, after repeated bathing in the water, healed in no time at all & the news of this "miracle spring" quickly spread throughout the Cape Colony. People started coming from all over the country (and world) to experience this natural wonder for themselves.......

However, based on the fact that there are various Khoi (Bushman) drawings on rocks and in caves in the greater Montagu area, one can safely assume that the springs were most certainly known to these people for hundreds, possibly thousands of years before the aforementioned "discovery" and as such the real date of the origin of the spring is lost in the mists of time.
With so much relaxation going on, on the other web pages, you may well be misled into thinking that Avalon Springs is purely for holidays but, nothing could be further from the truth and we pride ourselves on our ability to organize any professional events you care to mention.........

Amongst our regular (and satisfied clients -- we would like to add), we are proud to list companies like Old Mutual, Shell & BP South Africa, D&L Petroleum, Star Wash, Telkom, ABSA, and a host of others both large and small. We take this opportunity to thank them ALL for their continued support!
